Here are some interesting details about electric hoists and why it is beneficial to use one.
An electric hoist is a powered piece of equipment which is used to lift, lower and manoeuvre heavy or awkward loads. Electric hoists are used by many different types of companies, large or small, most commonly used in construction, manufacturing, auto / mechanic industries, marine and dockyards to name but a few, and are often used in conjunction with overhead cranes, mobile gantry systems and A-frames.
Electric hoists are available in many varied models, providing you with a choice of safe working loads, lifting capacities, heights of lift, falls of chain (single or double are most commonly used) single or dual speed and single or 3 phase power. Electric hoists come in 2 main types, electric chain hoists or wire rope hoists.
Electric hoists can also be supplied with a variety of fittings to fit onto the loading hook, including chain slings, wire ropes, webbing slings and a wide range of different hooks and catches.
An electric hoist, when used in the correct manner, not only provides a cost efficient means of manual handling, but more importantly an electric hoist provides a safer way to lift and manoeuvre heavy or awkward loads.
Were you aware that lifting operations are considered to be high risk, and that the number of accidents and injuries in manual handling is very high, and accounted for 20% of all FATAL workplace injuries a few years ago.
By using an electric hoist for all your lifting, lowering and manoeuvring of heavy loads, the risk of injuries can be greatly reduced, when used correctly, as workers are not lifting the heavy or awkward loads, the hoist is doing the work.
Many workers in industries such as construction suffer with some form of back, neck and knee pain, (often caused by repetitively lifting heavy loads) resulting in time off work,(sick pay) and therefore reducing your man-power, (extra labour needed) costing money.
An electric hoist will also save you time on a job, as lifting a heavy load up to a high point (i.e. scaffolding) will take much less time than if a person or persons had to haul heavy equipment up, and therefore again saving you money.
