CHAIN SLINGS
Chain slings are available in a variety of assemblies, single leg, double leg, 3 or even 4 leg chain slings.
Chain slings can also be used in various lift combinations, strait lift, choke lift or basket lift.
Because of the many different combinations available chain slings are a very versatile type of lifting equipment. Chain slings are usually attached to an electric hoist or winch by means of a hook, which may be an open hook or one with a safety catch fitted, the load must always sit in the dish of the hook never on its tip.
Chain slings are very robust and can withstand extreme temperatures, and are resistant to some chemicals. Made from alloy steel, they are strong and can lift large and heavy loads.
There are many safety aspects to take into consideration when using chain slings, and should always come supplied with safe use information which must be followed closely, and never exceed the safe working load limit. Chain slings should never be knotted or twisted, the chain sling can be safely shortened by the use of a shortening hook.
Care must also be taken to follow the safety rules regarding the angle of the chain sling when lifting, the degree angle rules vary dependant upon which type of hitch you are using, (please see our earlier news pages for more information).
It is also important to check the chain regularly for defects such as split links, bent links or cracks and if noted should be repaired by a qualified person. Have your chain slings inspected and load tested at regular intervals, to prevent accidents.
If you are in any doubt of the chains capability, do not use.
