This news page answers a few basic questions about electric hoists.
So what is an electric hoist, An electric hoist is an electrically powered appliance that lifts objects that are too heavy or cumbersome for a person to lift alone.
So how does an electric hoist work? Firstly the hoist will need to be suspended by its top hook, this is often onto a gantry beam clamp or jib crane etc. The load is then attached to the loading hook at the lower end of the chain, this is often done by using a sling of some kind slung around the load then connected to the hoist’s hook. Subsequently the “UP” power button is pressed, this will turn the chain around internal gears and raise the load, most electric hoists possess a clutch that will slip at a pre-set torque, this helps to prevent overloading the hoist. To lower the load the “DOWN” button on the control panel is pressed.
So where are they used?
Electric hoists can be used in a huge variety of areas to aid in lifting and lowering heavy loads. Some of the places that electric hoists are frequently used include; shipping, construction, warehouses, dockyards, car repair garages, and even the emergency services, these hoists are also used for more unusual applications, such as lowering chandeliers for cleaning, or lifting cars for displaying upright at big events, their possibilities are endless.
