When we refer to mobile crane ropes we are talking about the crane on the back of a lorry type. They come in a vast array of designs and enable large, heavy loads to be lifted and moved in places where it would be almost impossible thanks to the mobility of the lorry crane.
This type of mobile crane may use one or more wire ropes, typically for load lifting (the main hoist rope) and sometimes for controlling the movement and rotation of the crane arm (boom or luffing rope), selecting the correct rope is essential for safety and longevity.
Lifting Gear Direct offer two different constructions of wire rope for mobile cranes. Firstly we have the 35x7 construction which contains multiple layers or wire strands laid in opposite directions to form an anti-spin or non-rotating rope. The rope has also been compacted to provide a smooth surface and good crush resistance.
A mobile crane typically sits at the rear of a large vehicle and uses hoist and boom ropes for its operation. Most cranes of this type have stabilisers which extend to the sides of the vehicle to provide the extra stability needed when lifting and moving heavy loads. Some mobile cranes will lift and lower only and others will be able to rotate, thus offering optimum load placement.

8mm to 19mm diameters are available available in this lang lay, rotation resistant rope with a Warrington type wire core. Suitable for the main hoist rope on mobile cranes.
Like the 24x7 rotation resistant rope but with the addition of compaction this rope is great for multiple layer coiling and has a higher breaking load strength than the equivalent non-compacted rope. 8mm to 22mm available
This rotation resistant rope prevents unwanted spin when loads are lifted, thus make ideal crane hoist ropes. Available in diameters from 20mm to a huge 82mm.
This 24x7 constructed wire rope is compacted as well as being rotation resistant, so ideal for use as the main hoist rope on mobile cranes. Available in diameters from 8mm to 22mm. Stronger than the same size without compaction.
These high performance wire ropes have a high breaking resistance and are resistant to crushing and bend fatigue. Being rotation resistant they are anti-spin, thus more controllable and less likely to spin out of control. All these ropes have been compacted for optimum strength and smaller diameters can be used. Compacted ropes are much smoother, thus easier to handle and pass over sheaves/drums more smoothly. Internal friction is minimised thanks to the filling of all voids during compaction giving it a higher breaking load strength.
28x7 RR & C
10mm to 17mm diameters are available in this 28x7 mobile crane hoist rope construction which is rotation resistant and compacted inner and outer strands with a Warrington steel core. 1960 and 2160 MPa breaking load strengths are available.
32x7 RR & C
This rope construction comes in larger diameters ranging from 18mm up to 26mm, all in a choice of 2 minimum breaking load strengths – 1960 or 2160 MPa. This fully compacted rope boasts high performance, thus ideal for mobile crane hoist rope.
35 x 7 RR & C
28mm up to 48mm rope diameters are available in this anti-spin, fully compacted hoist rope complete with a Warrington steel wire core. Ideal for larger hoists and heavier loads.
35x26 RR & C
Ideal for high rise applications the 35x26 rotation resistant, fully compacted wire rope is available in 3 diameters – 68mm, 70mm and 72mm making this one of our largest ropes. The 2160 MPa minimum breaking strength of this rope offers excellent strength as a hoist rope.
35x31 RR & C
These huge mobile crane hoist ropes come in diameters from 74mm up to a huge 89mm. They have fully compacted strands with a Warrington steel core. A high performance wire rope with high breaking strength.
35x36 RR & C
Our largest rope for mobile crane hoists comes in diameters from 93mm up to a whopping 109mm. Fully compacted for optimum crush and fatigue resistance with a Warrington steel core. Ideal where high breaking load strength is required along with rotation resistance.
