The LP series of electric stage hoists from GIS incorporate three key models with specific clarification for its use. We have the standard D8, the D8+ and the C1 classified hoists.
Within the LP series of electric hoists you will also find the LPL models which have a stronger , heavier chain but lower working load limits (WLL).
In the specifications you will find the working load limits for each model at different safety factors such as 5:1, 8:1, 10:1, 16:1 and more, thus suitable for different uses with higher safety factors for some tasks. The higher the safety factor the lower the WLL but with the highest safety level.
The hoists are modular in design and thus enables quick and easy inspection, maintenance and repair.
Here we look at the basics for each hoist type; full details can be found in the brochure and specification documentation downloads above. All hoists can be supplied with hook or eye suspension, and can be used as a stationary or climbing hoist. GIS stage hoists are light, quiet, powerful and weatherproof (IP65).
Each model can be set up with customer specific requirements for specific tasks including control options, power and voltage options, special speeds, trolleys and more; see the documentation for all the details.
The D8 specified hoists are a standard industrial hoist and thus cannot be used above people. However if the optional second safety system is added then the hoist may be used to hold loads above people. In standard mode these hoists are often used for stage set up and whilst touring and are usually operated without a hand held control.
D8 LP hoists come in WLL up to 6300kg (LPL models up to 2000kg) and a safety factor range from 5:1 up to 16:1.
In accordance to EN14492-2 and IGVW SQP2:2024
The D8+ rated models are designed specifically to be able to safely hold loads above people without modification. Light and compact these hoists are popular for stage productions and can handle loads up to 3200kg(up to 2500kg in single chain fall @ 8:1) or 1250kg for the LPL models. The range of safety factors starts at 8:1 and can reach 25:1 if needed.
These hoists are ideal for equipment moves and static rigging and are typically seen on lighting and PA trusses.
In accordance to EN14492-2 ; IGVW SQP2:2024 and EN17206.
C1 classified hoists can be used to hold and move loads above people in accordance to EN14492-2 and IGVW SQP2:2024 and EN17206. Common uses include moving performers aerial platforms, flying set pieces, multi-axis LED screens, lighting pods, automated scenery changes and much more. High lifting speeds can be achieved up to 32 metres per minute.
C1 rated hoists in the LP series are available in WLL up to 2500kg (1000kg for the LPL models).
The lowest possible safety factor sits at 10:1 – higher than D8 and D8+ categories. The maximum achievable safety factor is 31.2:1.
The GIS LP range of entertainment hoists can be further enhanced with additional components such as load and path measurement devices, sensors, different control voltages, silent brakes, chain containers, flight cases, trolley systems, temperature monitoring, brake surveillance, suspension options, handles, radio remote controls, briefcase type controllers and much more – browse the documentation above to see all the options and benefits you can get for GIS stage hoists.
Lodestar and Liftket electric stage hoists are also available as well as Verlinde Stagemaker hoist range. Other rigging components such as shackles and slings can also be supplied.
