About Cobra 3 leg chain slings in Grade 8

3 leg chain slings should be used with the legs evenly spaced around the load for optimum stability and to keep the angle of each chain the same in order to get a positive maximum working load limit.

We can supply these slings in a variety of lengths from 1 metre up to 10 metres as standard. You can purchase the longest length you are likely to need, however if sometimes you may need a shorter sling then opt for shortening hooks to be fitted to the master link; these can be used to hook back the chain safely to the desired length without affecting the WLL. With 3 leg slings you will find 2 legs fitted to one sub link and the third leg goes into one sub link before being fitted into the master link. This enables good balance and equal angles on all legs.

Chain Sling Hook Options

Alongside the shortening hooks for the master link we have four hook options for the loading end of the chain legs.

Standard Clevis Sling hook; this comes with a sprung safety catch which moves back into the hook and can somewhat limit the size of the opening.

Clevis self locking hook; this design has a larger opening whilst still securing loads with a latch, A small lever at the side is activated to open up the hook; the whole bowl moves backwards to create the large opening, when re-closed it sits against the lock/latch creating a secure connection.

Swivel Self Locking Hook; This works the same way as the Clevis self locking hook, however its connection type differs. This type will need a connector link to attach to the chain.

Clevis 'C' Hook; This is an open hook with no safety latch. The hook tip sits back a little way to help prevent loads slipping. Typically used in coil handling tasks.

Size Options and Specs

The size of chain you choose will determine the size of the fittings used. Chain sizes typically go on the link diameter thickness, the range starts at 6mm and goes up to 32mm. The length measurement is taken from the inside edge of each end link. The full dimensions can be found in the documentation above.

1, 2 and 4 leg chain slings from Cobra are also available in grade 8, 80 and 100 alongside a selection of European chain slings. Get in touch with the Lifting Gear Direct team if you have any questions.
