Using Magnetic Lifting Equipment

Typical handheld magnetic claws or magnetic grabs (such as the 2 pictured - left & centre) as they are often called are used to make the handling of smaller steel sheets much easier. They allow the pushing, pulling, sliding and placement of small steel sheets without the need to touch sharp, dirty or even hot steel.  Magnetic claws, like the THM range from Yale, can be used individually or in pairs or other multiples, this enables one or more persons to handle the sheet material.

Another key benefit to using these magnetic grabs is that they allow you to get a good, firm grip on the steel sheet, something which is not always easily done by hands alone, especially when edges are usually sharp. The powerful magnetic surface in these grabs ensure a positive hold, providing the surface of the sheet material makes full contact without, dirt or air gaps, as is the case with all magnetic lifting equipment.

Magnetic Grabs from Eclipse are very easy to use, after ensuring the surface of the steel is in a suitable condition the magnetic claw can be placed on the surface, the handle, which is also used to hold/handle the steel is pressed down, this will activate a cam mechanism which in turn will release the magnet to grab onto the steel sheeting.
