About Galvanized Steel Catenary Wire Kits

Our catenary kist include four key elements; the wire rope, a turnbuckle tensioner, rope grips and hook plates. Each element is made from quality steel which has been galvanized to provide good corrosion protection. Although not quite as good as the stainless variety.

Setting Up your Catenary Wire Kit

Probably the first thing you will need to do is fit the hook plates to a suitable place where you need to suspend the cables from. We can supply these kits with a number of wire lengths so measure up the span between your hook plate points and choose carefully.

Next you will need to form the eyes in the wire rope. Gently bend the end of the rope back on itself to form a loop, now using two wire rope grips secure the free end back to the main length. You will need a spanner to tighten the nuts on the grips to ensure the wire cannot be pulled free. Now do this on the other end of the wire rope but insert the eye end of the turnbuckle fitting before securing with the grips.

Now hook one eye onto one of the hook plates and pull taught as you move towards the opposite hook plate, take the turnbuckle tensioner and hook it to the hook plate. Finally using the turnbuckle you can adjust the tension or the rope, that's it, your set up.

When it comes to suspending cables etc. from the catenary we recommend leather suspenders which hold the cables securely.

Uses for a Catenary Kit

At Lifting Gear Direct we predominantly utilize these kits on our lifting gantry systems and Jib cranes. They are attached to the top of the main steel beam so that all power cables from powered trolleys and/or lifting hoists can be anchored away from moving parts, thus increasing safety vastly.

Catenary wire kits can also be used elsewhere, often used for anchoring cables across a span between to places such as a house to garden shed; other uses could include hanging signage, in gardens for suspending plants or lights, art displays, light installations, stage sets and more. The stainless steel kits would be the better option for outdoor use due to their unbeaten corrosion resistance.
