Black Wire Rope 19x7 Construction

This blackened steel wire rope is constructed from 19 strands with each containing 7 wires. The 19 strands are laid out in a different way to standard ropes in order to obtain its rotation resistance. There are 12 outer strands and 7 inner strands (19 in total). The outer strands are twisted and laid in the opposite direction to the inner strands, this means that when a load is applied to the rope the rotational forces applied to the inner and outer layers will counteract each other so the rope will not spin and stretch like a standard rope can.

This high tensile strength rope has enough flexibility to be used over pulleys and the minimised rotation means its easy to handle.

Corrosion protection is in the form of galvanization with a blackened finish.

The Black Finish

Zinc phosphate or zinc oxide is used to blacken the rope – why?

On stage and in theatres and other entertainment complexes wire rope is commonplace; and is utilised in multiple rigging applications. In this type of environment strong lighting is used and if standard, silvery coloured cables are used the light can reflect off them and cause glints and flashes of light, this can be really distracting for both the audience, actors and stage hands.

Using this black wire cable removes this optical distraction; light will not reflect and flash. The other huge benefit to using blackened wire rope is that it is much more difficult to see.

End Terminations

We supply this rope with natural, unterminated ends as standard, but we have the capacity to apply any termination to one or both rope ends to suit your needs. Typical choices include thimble eyes, sockets, swaged terminals or a simple fuse and taper.

If you would like a fitting added then simply give our team a call to discuss your needs.
